trust.

recently, i was in the car and heard an interesting story on the radio. it was a short blurb about a man who had traveled to india to work with mother theresa (or something along those lines). he met with mother "t" and asked her to pray for him for clarity.

she said, "no, clarity is the last thing you're holding onto. i have never asked for clarity, but always asked for trust. i will pray that you will trust god."

i sat listening, shocked, and convicted.  i can't tell you how many times (recently) i've prayed for or asked for prayer for "clarity"... "discernment"... "understanding", when maybe i should have been pleading for a heart of trust. i don't think there's anything at all wrong with seeking clarity from god, sometimes he wants us to ask for it, and he wants to give it to us.  but the problem comes when, instead of trusting god in every situation or circumstance, we focus too much on trying to "discern" the situation...which is what i do all to often.

maybe clarity is the last thing you or i am holding onto, and not giving over to god. he requires trust, not understanding...

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
(proverbs 3:5-6)


Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
(psalm 20:7)

He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD
(psalm 112:7)

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
(isaiah 12:2)


May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
